Waste Treatment Plant
In the Kattussery Waveli area, the solid waste collected from houses and shops is taken to the solid waste treatment plant operating at the foot of the Vidhimala mountain and the waste is sorted and handed over to a private agency. In addition, as a gram panchayat with a gradual increase in urbanization, following the constant demand of the business community, since 2020, organic waste is collected in special bins for a fixed fee and taken to the solid waste plant and deposited in the 12 units of Thumboormoozhi and Windrow composting units to produce organic fertilizer, and the produced products are distributed to the needy at the rate of Rs. 8 per kg. By shedding the plastic waste collected by the Green Karma Sena and allowing it to be used for tarring roads in the gram panchayat and nearby panchayats, the existing roads have become of better quality. For such activities of Harithakarma Sena, the solid waste treatment plant has plastic shedding machine, plastic baling press, organic shedding machine, Thumboormuzhi model waste treatment system, dry digester, a tractor, a three-wheeler and a four-wheeler to transport the waste to the plant on time, and two drivers are working tirelessly for this. To help Harithakarma Sena, 10 daily wage workers have been appointed in the solid waste plant, four permanent employees and 3 daily wage workers have been appointed for sweeping the town areas in the morning. The main challenge for the goal of setting up a waste treatment plant was the lack of convenient habitation. There was 40 cents of land of the panchayat at Waveli, which is located at a distance of about 5 km from the panchayat, at the foot of the Vidhi Hill, which is the southwestern border of the panchayat. In addition, 66.5 cents of land was purchased in the year 2000-01. Since it is a very sparsely populated area, there are currently no complaints. The construction of the plant was completed in the year 2011-12 with the assistance of Mundoor IRTC.
